CLIA Program to Transition to Electronic CLIA Coupons and Certificates
Last Chance. Act Now!
CMS is modernizing the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) program by transitioning to electronic CLIA fee coupons and certificates. This transition is not optional. Laboratories must sign up for CMS email notifications to receive electronic CLIA fee coupons and certificates.
March 1, 2026 is the final deadline.
- After this date, CMS will no longer mail paper CLIA fee coupons or certificates.
- All CLIA certification and survey fees must be paid online, as checks will no longer be accepted.
- Failure to take action to update your information before March 1, 2026 may result in billing delays or certification issues.
How to Switch
You can switch to electronic notifications from CMS (see weblink below) or update your email address by:
- Emailing your State Agency
Tip: Include your laboratory name, laboratory director or owner’s name, CLIA number, director or designee’s signature to help your State Agency make the switch. CMS suggest using a business email address, or one that many staffers can access and use.
- Contacting your Accreditation Organization (for accredited laboratories).
They can add or update email addresses for the laboratories they survey.
